The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is working with the Mebane Police Department in regards to a robbery that occurred at the Petro Shopping Center Truck Stop at 500 Buckhorn Road in Mebane Wednesday morning.
Orange County Sheriff Charles Blackwood posted a message Wednesday morning, via Twitter, regarding the robbery.
“Orange County Sheriff’s Office is assisting Mebane Police Department with a robbery in the area of 500 Buckhorn Road,” the post stated. “Heavy law enforcement presence in the area. Please avoid if possible.”
Alicia Stemper, Director of Public Information and Special Services later posted a release regarding the incident.
“Deputies were called to assist Mebane police shortly before 9:30 this morning after three men robbed a truck driver of an undisclosed amount of cash,” the statement read. “The driver was able to puncture a tire of the suspect vehicle, disabling it.”
The three perpetrators then fled the area and headed toward West Ten Road. The men are described as white and are likely in their 20s. One of the men was seen wearing a brown shirt.
The statement asks that citizens avoid the area of the incident and call 911 if they witness anything that is unusual. Following the incident, Gravelly Hill Middle School was put on a soft lock down for preventative measures.
The investigation is ongoing and there will be more information provided once it is accessible.
