Authorities announced that Bradford Perry Jr. of Durham was arrested Friday in connection with an armed robbery that took place Wednesday night at a Mebane ABC store.
Perry was taken into custody at 12:30 p.m. Friday after authorities were able to find Perry's vehicle not far from his residence. Using a video from the ABC store along with evidence found in the vehicle, authorities were able to confirm Perry's identity.
Orange County Sheriff Charles Blackwood praised the hard work of authorities in leading to the arrest in a statement.
"From the beginning, this was a complicated, multi-agency case," Sheriff Blackwood said in the statement. "We are so grateful to have such excellent partnerships with other law enforcement agencies, including the Durham Police Department and the Highway Patrol. This was a hostile, aggressive crime, and it is great to be able to work this case with the force multiplying effect of strong working relationships."
The information below contains a recap of the events that unfolded Wednesday night in Mebane.
Authorities are looking for two suspects who robbed a Mebane ABC store at gunpoint Wednesday night, and then led a law enforcement vehicle on a high speed chase that ended in a collision and the suspects fleeing in different directions.
Shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday, two suspects entered the ABC store on US-70 in Mebane, near the Orange/Alamance line. A customer was in the store, as was a cashier.
The suspects, donning hoodie sweatshirts, ski masks, and sunglasses, revealed handguns and demanded money from the clerk and the customer. They made off with the cash register drawer, the customer’s wallet, and two bottles of liquor.
A witness followed the suspects’ vehicle in pursuit until law enforcement units located the vehicle and began their own pursuit.
Video footage from ABC11 shows several law enforcement vehicles pursuing the suspects’ gray Chevy Malibu down I-85 North. The car was driving with no lights and swerving across lanes.
The chase ended in Durham following a collision between a North Carolina State Highway Patrol cruiser and the suspect’s car.
One suspect fled the scene on foot, the other was able to drive away following the collision.
The police vehicle was too damaged from the collision to continue a pursuit of the vehicle.
The heist occurs one day after thieves robbed a tractor trailer truck in the Mebane section of Orange County, at the Petro station on Buckhorn Road. Those thieves fled on foot and have not yet been apprehended.
The investigation is ongoing. Orange County Sheriff’s Officer Investigator Jeff Ray is the lead on the case.
Anyone with information is asked to call him at the Orange County Sheriff’s Office at (919) 245-2975.
