Nancy Freeman was appointed unanimously as Tax Administrator Tuesday night by the Orange County Board of County Commissioners. Freeman began working as Interim Tax Administrator Aug 3. She replaced former Tax Administrator Duane Brinson, who left the role effective June 28, 2019 to take over the position in Durham County after seven years in Orange County.
Freeman is no stranger to working for Orange County. She was first hired in the Revenue Department in December 1997, and has worked for the tax department for many years.
Before working with Orange County, she served in a role for the Hillsborough Savings Bank.
At the BOCC meeting Tuesday night, Freeman was recommended by Orange County Manager Bonnie Hammersley and then appointed by the Board of County Commissioners to serve the rest of Brinson’s term until April 2, 2023.
“I’m a native of Orange County, so this is important to me,” Freeman said in a release sent out by the Orange County Government. “This is more than a job. It’s my home, and I want to do the best I can for my fellow residents of Orange County.”
Both Chair Penny Rich and Commissioners Mark Marcoplos and Jamezetta Bedford participated in Freeman’s selection process, according to the release.
