Hillsborough has something to cheer and dance about. Literally.
The Hillsborough Cheer and Dance Co. recently attended the Cupid Classic Spirit Solutions Competition at the Cabarrus Arena in Concord, and swept the dance competition with three first-place wins.
Orange Crush Dance team members Emily Kary, Kathryn Pattison, Sylvie Egts, Mayci Triplett, Callie Slaughter, Josie Angel and Hannah Draper grabbed top scores in lyrical, hip hop and jazz.
The teams are coached by Hillsborough natives Alexis Hobgood and Dorothy O’Neill.
HCDC’s cheer teams, led by Hillsborough’s Annalie Cummings, Savannah Durfey and Devon Chamberlain each took home 4th place in their second ever competition.
“These groups started practice in late September, and have improved so much in such a short time span. Some of the girls on our cheer teams had never cheered before, and they are now — only five months later — competing on an elite level. We are so proud of all of their hard work and dedication,” said Coach O’Neill.
Cheer teams are Junior Orange Crush: Kathryn Pattison, Callie Slaughter, Hannah Draper, Sylvie Egts, Mayci Triplett, Sofia Timpy, Lily Wolf, Addisyn Logue, Amelia Horvath, Josie Angel, Quinn Parker and Lily Kate Phillips. Mini Orange Crush includes Emily Faucette, Jazlyn Soto, Bryn Burklin, Lucy Doherty and Molly Draper.
The Hillsborough Cheer and Dance Co. is the only All-Star Cheer program in Hillsborough. It currently has a Mini team for ages 5-8 years old, and a Junior team for ages 9-14 years old. Non-competition cheer and dance classes for ages 2 and up are also offered.
