Dr. Todd Wirt resigned as superintendent of Orange County Schools at an Orange County Board of Education work session meeting on Monday.
Wirt resigned at the end of the meeting’s open session.
Wirt was hired by the Orange County Board of Education in 2015 after acting as assistant superintendent for Wake County Public School System for three years. His hiring came after Gerri Martin resigned as Orange County superintendent in May of 2014 after less than eight months in the position.
Wirt’s contract with Orange County Schools ran through June 2022. An Elon University alum, Wirt has been active as a North Carolina educator and administrator for over 20 years.
