ACE camp raises community garden, grows in knowledge

Campers with the Efland-Cheeks Community Center Academic Cultural Enrichment (ACE) Summer Camp planted the garden’s first seeds this year on June 25. Now, squash, tomato, and cucumber plants, among others, have grown and been fruitful as the camp culminates this week. On Wednesday, July 25, a few campers met in the garden to learn about the various ways to store and preserve vegetables. They learned the processes of fermenting, pickling, freezing, drying, and other was to keep harvested fruits and vegetables fresh for a long period of time.
