A man was charged with common law robbery, larceny of a motor vehicle and possession of a stolen motor vehicle and taken into custody on Tuesday following a common law robbery at a local convenience store.
According to an Orange County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) press release, Brandon Lamar Wiggins approached the clerk at the Circle K on U.S. 70 in Hillsborough early on Tuesday morning. He allegedly asked for change and, when the clerk opened the cash register drawer, the suspect leapt partway over the counter and took money from the drawer.
He then got into a white car and fled toward Durham.
OCSO Corporal D. Ashley located the vehicle and followed it into Durham near Cole Mill Rd. Wiggins pulled over and then fled on foot. The Durham Police Department provided assistance, and with the help of their K9 officer, Wiggins was found hiding nearby. The vehicle had recently been reported stolen in Franklin County.
Following the arrest, Ashley took Wiggins to the Orange County Magistrate’s office where he was charged. Wiggins was taken into custody at the Orange County Sheriff’s Detention Center. Secured bond was set at $25,000 and a next court date was scheduled for July 1.
