At Tuesday night’s Board of Orange County Commissioners meeting, Penny Rich was re-elected as Chair, and Renee Price was re-elected as Vice-Chair for 2020.
In addition to the re-elections of the Chair and Vice Chair, the Board unanimously approved applications for seven landowners applying for farmland in the Voluntary Agricultural Districts of Caswell, White Cross, Cane Creek/Buckhorn, Cedar Grove, High Rock/Efland and Schley/Eno. The landowners requesting farmland will also be enrolled in the Orange County Farmland Preservation Voluntary and Enhanced Voluntary Agricultural District Programs.
Following the vote on the applications for farmland, the Board approved unanimous proclamations to recognize Katherine Thompson Wilkerson-Cheek and Robert Dowling to express thanks for their committment to Orange County.
The Board then received data regarding homelessness in Orange County that had been sent to the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development in 2019.
As part of the Board’s regular agenda for the meeting, the Board unanimously approved a receipt for an Emergency Solutions Grant of $40,000. The grant will provide Rapid Rehousing services and open a position with the responsibility of providing those services through the allocation of available funds through the Mental Health Maintenance of Effort. MOE funds will also be used to give counseling to families who are included in protective services.
