Alys married her sweetheart, Benjamin Michael Carrington in August of 1959. Their marital bliss lasted until his death in May 1997.
Alys was the ultimate caregiver during her life. Starting off her career as a daycare teacher. She continued her career path working in the Foster Care and Adoption section of the State of New Jersey, Division of Family Services. While raising her own children, Alys found the time and a place for several foster children. Some remained in her home just a short while others stayed longer, but all remained in her heart forever. Her rule was for these children to remain “as hers” until they could be safely returned home or were adopted.
Alys knew from a young age that God loved and cared for her. Her mother once told her one morning when she woke up and didn’t pray to start her day that ‘God didn’t forget her. He woke her up that morning and kept her all night long.’ She never forgot those words from her mother and she instilled these words into her own children. Alys knew with assurity that she was a child of God.
