This week’s Cedar Ridge Red Wolf of the Week is sprinter Zach Crane.
Last week, Crane formally signed with Guilford College during a ceremony inside Cedar Ridge Gymnasium.
On Saturday, Crane joined Vaughan LaNier, Brandon Garcia and Connor Blankford in finishing 8th in the 4x800 relay at the 3A Mideast Track & Field Regionals at Southern Lee High School.
Earlier this season, Crane finished 2nd in the 3,200 meters during a meet at Northern Durham. He crossed the finish line at 11:52.10, a new personal best. At the Big 8 Championships at Southern Durham High School on April 24, Crane set his new personal best in the 1,600 meters at 5:01.79.
Crane is a three-sport athlete at Cedar Ridge. Over the winter, he played basketball. Last year, he participated on Cedar Ridge’s indoor track and field team.
On November 29, 2017, Crane finished first in the 4x800 relay during the Eastern Alamance Polar Bear #2 meet, where he teamed with Rory Legg-Bell, Eli Tilley and Brian Finch to register a time of 9:06.18.
Zach has been running since he was at A.L. Stanback Middle School.
“I got more serious when I was in high school,” Crane said. “Especially during my sophomore year. That’s when I started going on long runs and picking my work ethic up.”
Guilford Track Coach Marty Owens reached out to Crane about running with the Quakers.
“He had a lot of interest in me,” Crane said. “We talked and he has a very good plan. I believe it’s going to work.”
